About SofistiKateIt: Meet the Creator

Hi! I’m Kate, the retired spirit behind this digital studio and exploration of Niagara and beyond blog. While I live in the heart of the beautiful Niagara Region, for many years, my view of it was limited to what I could see from my car window on the way to work.

The Busy Years

Before I retired three years ago, my life was a whirlwind of activity. I spent many dedicated years working in the Environmental Services department—a role that required high standards and a sharp eye for detail. At the same time, I was busy raising my two kids. Between the demands of a literally back-breaking career and the responsibilities of home, I simply never had the time to explore the landmarks and history right in my own backyard.

A New Chapter of Discovery

Now that I’ve happily embraced retirement, I’ve finally given my body a break and my creative side a chance to shine. I am now on a mission to discover the world I missed out on during those busy decades.

My blog is a mix of research, adventure, and creation:

  • The Research: I spend hours researching online and reading to uncover "hidden" facts, like the subterranean labyrinth of the Toronto PATH which, OMG, I never even knew existed all these years! Or the "Limestone Titans" of the Ghost Canals. Sometimes, I even use AI to help me dig through all that information and organize my notes—though I'm always the one double-checking the facts and correcting the details to make sure everything is just right because you can never totally trust that AI!
  • The Experience: When I do get out to explore, I bring my camera - my iPhone now, but "back in the day," you’d always find me with a "real" camera in hand! (lol)! You can see my personal snapshots of places I’ve visited over on my NIAGARA EH! page.
  • The Creations: I take my research, my "Visions," and my curiosity for a wide range of subjects and turn them into the high-resolution digital art you’ll find in my SOFISTIKATEIT Etsy Shop. From Einstein bookmarks and local landmarks to calendars and coloring books, it’s a collection of everything I’m passionate about creating.

what then is an empty desk a sign of?"

A Studio of Diverse Creations

In my digital studio, I believe in quality over speed. I take great pride in every item I create, whether it's a high-resolution digital print, a practical planner, or seasonal clipart. My shop features a wide range of products including:
  • Printable Posters & Wall Art (such as my Niagara Falls facts posters).
  • Planners & Educational Charts (like my multiplication and division bundles and Christmas planners).
  • Photography Overlays & Clipart (for pregnancy announcements and holiday crafts).
  • Seasonal Fun for kids and adults alike.

Whether you are here for the deep-dive history facts or to find a unique digital download in my Etsy Shop, I’m so glad you’ve joined me for this journey. It’s not a race—it’s about finally getting to see the world, one post and one design at a time.

A Note on My Path: My creative education and digital experience didn't come from a classroom or a degree; they were built through decades of curiosity and the "trial and error" of a self-taught journey. I’ve spent years mastering the fine details in everything I do, and I bring that same realist eye to every pixel I place and every story I tell here.

Thank you for being here! 💕
